Development News – what have the devs said this week?

  1. Beta 2 Upcoming Changes
    1. Fleet Carriers will now have Universal Cartographics available as an optional service.
    2. Decommissioning a Fleet Carrier will now refund the full cost of a Carrier, with the only reductions either being unpaid debt when automated or a static fee for voluntary decommissioning.
    3. Module and ship storage will now always be available for the Fleet Carrier owner. Shipyard and outfitting services will still need to be purchased to enable visitors to use them and to buy stock for the owner.
    4. Tritium consumption per lightyear has been reduced by approximately half.
    5. BETA BLOWOUT!
      1. Basically, Fleet Carriers cost 1 million
  2. Beta 2 Patch Notes
    1. Upkeep cost for all additional services has been reduced by 80-90%.
    2. The core running costs have been reduced by 50%.
    3. The Debt Threshold has been updated in line with the upkeep changes (This means with all services installed, a carrier can go 10 weeks (up from 4) without paying upkeep before being issued a final warning).
    4. The total upfront activation costs of some of the more expensive services have been reduced by 35-45%.
    5. The time between jumps has been decreased to 15 minutes for jump preparation and 5 minutes to cool-down.
    6. Added Universal Cartographics as an optional service on Fleet Carriers.
    7. Fleet Carrier owners can now store their ships and modules aboard their Fleet Carrier by default.
    8. When decommissioning a carrier you will now receive a full refund.
    9. Voluntary decommissioning will incur a fee equivalent to 50% of the Debt Threshold.
    10. When cancelling the decommissioning of your Fleet Carrier, you will now receive an inbox message to confirm the cancellation.
    11. Reduced the amount of Tritium consumed with each jump by around half.
    12. Added a better indication of arriving and decommissioned states for Fleet Carriers on the Cockpit Navigation Panel.
    13. Fleet Carrier Services menu now displays the name of the owner.
    14. The trade screen in Fleet Carrier Management, now reports the number of imported and exported commodity types separately rather than in a total for both.
    15. CQC Menu fix – CQC matchmaking from in-game will now require the usual delay before exiting the game if you are in danger.

  1. MSG From Kai Zen – PLEASE BE ADVISED: After talking extensively with Ty @ Loose Screws Podcasts we have different goals for future projects and different abilities to commit time and resources to achieving those goals as well as a difference of opinion on a few key factors of the partnership going forward. Therefore from this point forward I am stepping down as a cohost of Loose Screws Podcast and will be transitioning Elite Week into a solo project that will have its own podcast feed in addition to the existing YouTube channel.  I am still an on-air guest at Loose Screws and will remain active in that discord community but all of my content generations will take place from the official Elite Week discord.  I truly wish @Ty and @jnTracks [PC] all the best and am sure that they will make great content for you to enjoy in the coming days!

Development News – what have the devs said this week?

  1. New Era pushed back to “Early 2021”
    1. (From the shareholder article below) We had originally planned for the Elite Dangerous major update to release in December 2020, but, in the context of the current Covid-19 environment, we have now set a Q1 2021 release date.
  2. Frontier get Games workshop license
    1.  Frontier Developments announces an exclusive IP licence with Games Workshop to develop and publish a real-time strategy game within the rich and extensive world of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
  3. Fleet Carrier Beta 2 – Date Announcement
    1. Beta 2 will run from 11 May to 26 May

In-Game Events – what’s happened this week?

  1. Operation IDA – working on Weyn Dock – 64 Arietis
  2. AXI – Nothing new to report –
    1. no new activity on the thargoid front, just the Pleiades and the witch-head nebula.
    2. Cmdr MGRAM did show off how to kill a thargoid in a Keelback. Although there are reports of a civil war between two of the Anti Thargoid organizations.
    3. Tensions between the HIVE and Hank’s Alliance of Anti-Xeno are apparent at the moment.

Community Corner

  1. BBC radio documentary #ThisGameChangedMyLife which revisits Commander Michael Holyland’s story. Heartbreaking of course but sensitively put together by Nathan Jones and hosted by Aoife Lockhart & Julia Hardy really worth a listen.

  3. The Winged Hussars have a Calendar for Everyone!
  4. CMDR Cynnrain (a.k.a. Baz Floyd from SpecialEffect) is launching his daily Banter Bus at 9pm each and every day from the 26th April until the 21st May.

The Banter Bus will be visiting 26 known “interesting places” in the Bubble (or near it) each evening, and inviting every commander in the galaxy to pop in and join him for a little banter and company.

Whether you want to make a rendez-vous with the bus, and join in that evening’s shenanigans, or pop in to multicrew and take in the sights, or maybe just pop into Teamspeak and have a chat, Baz is available each evening from 9pm and we’ll be publishing the stops on the bus route soon….

Want to see an asteroid base, or a black hole, or the racing station at Cortes? Want to visit a megaship, or see a barnacle forest? A station in low orbit around a planet, or one circling a ringed earthlike? Want to see if we can get one of each ship type in a single selfie? Want to go to Mitterand Hollow? The bus is stopping at all these and more.

Teamspeak 3 server address is ts.forthemug.com – just look for the “Baz Big Bubble Banter Bus” room and hop in there to say hi and tag along. It will be chaos, but if you’re coming, bring an SRV, bring a fighter.

    Tonight he is at LAVE

Shoutouts

  1. Millstonebarn comes with a request from Ed’s 38 to help them get their home out in Colonia back!

Diplomats. Earlier this year a player minor faction ruthlessly stole Dunker’s Rest from the owners, Ed’s 38, in their home system, Dubbuennel, whilst we were supporting other (much needed) player-driven activities in the bubble (the Hutton Truckers’ HOT-MESS), thereby breaching the terms of the Jaques Accord. Biscuit production has been halted.
We appealed to their conscience… seemingly without success, so a small number of Dunkers, together with the Lyttle Massive and other allies have been working to rectify this situation and we have made great progress.
However the rogues, Nu Simbad, have today responded and we face a challenge righting their wrongdoings.
This is a call for your support. Please, come to Colonia. Ask your friends to rally behind our cause.  Spread the word. Bring your ships. Put Dunker’s Rest back in the hands of the responsible owners so that we can restart biscuit production it would be for the good of everyone in Colonia, including you Nu Simbad. Including you.
  2. Congrats to ChrisMasterSki who posted in Reddit that after 3,500 hours in game he just hit 1,000,000 light years traveled Reddit Link

  1. Completed Beta – impressions.

Community Corner

  1. Deep Space Support Array
    1.  The DSSA is a project to deploy a network of support Carriers all over the galaxy to help explorers in their deep space travels; roughly one Carrier per galactic region (plus a few more on the Z axis around the galactic centre). Those Carriers, offered by individuals, groups, factions or squadrons, would remain in a fixed and public location for at the very least a full year, open to all, with at least refuel and repair services, at the lowest price (other services are at the owner’s liberty). Beacons in the profound night, they would form a mesh of safe harbours for anyone who would need a rest stop.

Main Discussion

  1. Fleet Carriers – Content Reveal Announcement
    1. PC Gamer covers it and releases some more info than Frontier does
“If owners consistently fall behind on their payments, the fleet carriers might, ultimately, be decommissioned and sold for parts.”
      1. The Yamiks questions it
      2. And Frontier Confirms
“Hi Yamiks. Thanks for sharing the news. We’ve lots of new features to share in our upcoming stream, including how the decommission system works (spoiler: you need to incur on HUGE debt for that to happen). And our devs know that you’d want to go on vacation from time to time!”
      3. And Stephen quells fears on the forums
“While Fleet Carriers require a weekly upkeep for crew and enabled Fleet Carrier services, there are a number of options which will allow owners to earn credits and cover the ongoing running costs of a Fleet Carrier. There’s more to the debt and decommissioning of a Fleet Carrier, and it’s not something that should happen if the player hasn’t incurred a HUGE amount of debt. We understand there’s a fair bit of concern about this but rest assured, we’ll be going over this in quite a lot of detail in the upcoming Content Reveal livestream next week.

There are also going to be two public beta periods where you’ll be able to test this for yourselves and share with us your feedback.”

  3. Hello to the Cmdr Ascorbius who has (with his Machinima and Brocast crew) come up with a new Elite Animation Go Home You’re Drunk! Very funny! 😉

In the meantime, Ascorbius has to make ends meet, Will Jayne get the Python back in time? Will Scorb ever learn? Features Turjan, Mach1ne, ToCoSo and Down to Earth Astronomy.”

  1. vECM details
    1. We will be having a LIVE artemis bridge crew. All the rig we built will be on screen, with smoke machines and lights and are inviting a crew to keep Engineer Moof busy by flying the ship whilst havoc goes on around him on screen.
      1. TLDR People playing Artemis will be doing their best to set fire to Moof remotely 🙂
    2. Then we’re having some of the streamers join in during the day for their own bits. Already Psyche, Mr Benedetti, Kolo, Paige have volunteered to pop in
    3. We will hold the raffle during the afternoon.

    5. We will also be inviting people in via Skype/zoom to say hi and take part in shenanigans
  2. Message from the EIC
    1. Hello lovely customers and beautiful members of the EIC community. In light of all that is going on in the world and, in a very small way, to counter the selfishness of some people out there buying all the toilet rolls and leaving some of us to set up a hosepipe in the house.

The EIC Trading Post is pleased to announce Operation: Helping Hand From 00:00 on 21st March 3306 (in about 15 or so hours) and running for at least 4 weeks ALL trades for engineer unlock commodities and rare goods will be ABSOLUTELY FREE to Cmdrs on PC!

Just place your order as normal and you don’t have to pay a single Imperial Slave for your goods.

We’re all in this together Cmdrs. All the best to you and your loved ones at this time and the EIC Trading Post team look forward to helping you unlock some more engineers..but this time for free.
      1. They’d love this to be on consoles too, but they don’t have the logistics in place over there to support it
  3. Message from Spidermind

You can now do both, with this little ‘at home’ gift bundle from Spidermind Games.

Follow the links below to download a free pdf sample from The Valley of Bones, Book One in the Legendary Kingdoms Series. This is a choose your own adventure gamebook you play on your own. All you need is a pencil and some d6 dice.

    23. Kai Zen – Email – Unease about the Thargoids current random actions and tension mounting in the population that they think Tharg is amassing forces for a major offensive and demanding that Core Dynamics, Lakon, Gutamaya et al. Get their asses in gear and put into production the prototype Capital Ships they have been working on so that as in the days of old when Galcop called upon private citizens to defend against the alien threat we may be fully equipped to aid in all manor of combat and civil engineering activities as well as being prepared to explore deeper in our need to secure a location of the threat and deal with it.

Followed by a week or 2 of responses from them then some “leaks” of production ramp ups all coordinated to hype the rollout of personal fleet carriers…

You can even do commentary from luminaries… Mahon calling for traders, Halsey calling for exploration to aid her own search for the caretakers of the galaxy, Fed president looking for say combat ships…. maybe some engineers like wierdo mc pervyface ettiene dorne asking for a SAR ship, etc. You could throw in a half dozen updates easily without rocking any Lore Boats or treading on the over arching story lines in any way that do nothing but build hype for a product that Fdev want us to be excited for…

Development News – what have the devs said this week?

  1. Clarification about the Galnet/CGs :-
    1. Just wanted to jump in this here locked thread and clarify Stephen’s earlier post. Essentially, the plan has not changed for how we’re treating future GalNet articles, which (as we stated here) will be tied to in-game activity, significant narrative developments, new ships and modules and so forth. It is the ‘off-camera’ narratives, that we have previously published via GalNet, which we currently have no plans to return.

The framework for Community Goals exist and while the regular cadence of Community Goals is not planned to see a return, we will still see some Community Goals in the future.

Apologies for any confusion that was caused!
    2. Introduction to CMDR Bruce (Gambit)We got a ‘Brucie Bonus’ when introduced to New CM Bruce who said about Fleet Carriers that the new systems that came with them would change how they play the game. That’s got people really excited that it will be more than just a mobile space station.
  2. Hoax announcement of Fleet Carriers being delayed until q4 has been debunked by Will on the Forums. Quite a nice mocked up but caused a little salt on the forums.
  3. Formula 1® Licence & additional publishing dealsFrontier to develop and publish management games annually for the FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
  4. Frontier is pleased to confirm the signing of another two Frontier Publishing deals, taking the number of signed deals to five for the Company’s third party publishing initiative.Other deals are “in discussion”

In-Game Events – what’s happened this week?

  1. Operation IDA – They have successfully repaired Titan’s Daughter and are now focusing on Exodus Point in the Hyades Sector AB-W b2-2 System.
  2. Anti-Xeno – Again the Eagle eye network is quiet and there have been no sneaky incursions by the Thargoids. Scouts and interceptors continue to plague the Pleiades and the Witch-head Nebula if people want to take.
