  • Frontier Developments plc Notice of Results and Trading update
    • Frontier expects to report revenue of approximately £64 million for the period compared to £19 million recorded in the interim results last year.
    • Based on trading performance in the first six months of the financial year, combined with sales over the Christmas holiday period, the Board remain comfortable with the analyst revenue projections of £75 million to £88 million for FY19 (the year ending 31 May 2019) and anticipate that revenue should exceed the mid-point of this range.
    • Elite Dangerous has exceeded 3 million base game units.  Previously the Company has reported “franchise units” for Elite Dangerous whereby the Elite Dangerous: Horizons expansion, sold at the same price as the base game, was also counted as one unit.  The Company has now simplified unit reporting to state gross unit sales of the base game only.  For comparative purposes cumulative franchise units for Elite Dangerous are now over 4.3 million.
    • The development of Frontier’s fourth game franchise is on track, with release targeted for FY20 (between 1 June 2019 and 31 May 2020).

  • Planned attacks on DW2 Expedition
    • Official policy from the DW2 organisers is that we do not endorse any form of PVP within the DW2 PGs, even for protection. Any combat within the DW2 PGs is strictly limited to PVE combat against NPCs. We cannot control anything that happens outside of the DW2 PGs, so we advise that you use the official PGs if you want to avoid PVP combat:
      • FleetComm (PC)
      • DistantworldsXB (Xbox)
      • Allcrowsareblack (PS4)
    • If attacked by a player, please contact a PG Admin privately and directly with any evidence like screenshots, videos, or player logs if on PC, etc. Please do not do this in public in any form.
    • In the event of destruction within one of the PGs, DO NOT click on rebuy. Instead, submit a support ticket with Frontier Support and state in your ticket that you are a DW2 participant and don’t want moving back to the bubble, and wait for a response. If you chose the rebuy option then FDev will be unable to move you back to where you died.
    • In your ticket also cite the information about Harassment Rules in Private Groups, as well as name the player(s) that attacked you.
    • Please do keep in mind that any support handled by FDev is done on a case by case basis at their discretion.
  • Fleet Defence Force and escorts against NPCs
    • Escorts will officially be handled by Iridum Wing on PC and Xbox, and a separate PS4 escort wing. These will be used for escorting truckers and during the mining CGs near civilised space.
    • The Fleet Defence Force is roleplayed with a story entwined in a mystical and interactive adventure that you can join as part of the Distant Worlds 2 expedition. Rumours are circulating of a bandit raider group spread across the route to Beagle Point. The Primary role of the FDF will be to scupper the plans of the bandits based on five interwoven scenarios as part of an EDRPG story arc.
    • The bandit scenarios will be the only sanctioned PvP events taking place within the expedition and will be carried out using SLF’s and SRV’s under strict guidelines in a controlled instance in a separate FDF PG.
    • You will require a ship capable of carrying an SLF.
    • The first Bandit vs FDF scenario will take place on Saturday 26th January 3305, location and times will follow within the FleetComm discord.
  • Fleet Mechanics in-game practice runs from the 8th-12th JAN on all platforms. For more info visit the Fleet Mechanics channel within the FleetComm discord.

    • Gentlemen,
Firstly, I’m a big fan of your podcast and have been a regular listener for over a year now.  Great job, guys; keep up the good work!I was recently playing with ship builds on beta.coriolis.io and noticed something about the new rules that affects a number of ships, particularly the Dolphin. In ED 3.3 the changes to scanning (i.e. the FSS) mean we no longer need to allocate a module for a discovery scanner, which frees up a ship slot. Furthermore, the passenger cabin module in the Dolphin (and the Orca and Beluga) can now be swapped for any other desired module.  This means that a Dolphin can now be fully outfitted for deep space exploration at less cost than a DBX but can do the job almost as well as the much pricier Asp Explorer.

Whilst initially appearing to be a wonderful exploit, this rather strikes me as similar to refitting a stretch limousine to do the job of a Range Rover.  It shouldn’t work and seems wrong. Am I missing something, or have Frontier really unbalanced the small-ship gameplay mechanics with this move?

Perhaps you could discuss this on the show?  I’d be particularly interested in hearing Cmdr Shan’s ever-so-optimistic assessment!

      Cheers (and fly dangerous),

      Cmdr Hunter Saige

    • The East India Company presents: The Danksgiving Expedition, November 3304
      • The citizens of Colonia have been working hard to build their new home, and now it’s time they got a reward, regardless of what Customs might like to think. So with the aid of The East India Company and publicity via Lave Radio, an expedition was put together with the following goals:* Explore the “high route” to Colonia. Away from the well-trodden route via the Colonia Connection, the high route is replete with unexplored neutron stars and far away from Customs patrols, making it just ideal for the long-distance smuggler and highly profitable for the explorers.* Bring the first load of booty – anything intoxicating, but in particular Onionhead and Lavian Brandy for Colonia citizens to enjoy, to resupply Jaques Bar – sneaking it into Jaques Station, past Colonia’s most watchful customs presence…* Be in Colonia just in time for the Q4 Exploration updates! Get a head start on the new exploration mechanics! Get on one of the very last expeditions where “jonking” is still a thing!
      • The expedition begins on Tuesday November 20th, with a loading party at Harvestport, Kappa Fornacis and at Lave Station, Lave. The lead ship will be the Alan Mathison Turing, an Imperial Cutter fit out for long distance smugg…err, trading.
  • Questions
    • Fascinating show, especially the bit about detecting bots by the way they do it. Amazing. One thought. FD say the BGS is a background simulation. It’s not the same a ‘the rules to play by’ (as in chess). The BGS as I see it is an alternative to having a fixed ‘gamey’ set of rules that break the simulation aspect…  It should FEEL random and it should present challenges to live around without FD having to manually alter things weekly.
People that game the BGS are not living the simulation, they are manipulating it. That’s not ‘simulation’.FD are likely to loosen the predictable links of the BGS in due course, but if as your speaker said, many BGS gamers are being driven away by the BOTS then it occurs to me that such might be it’s purpose……

If so, expect bots to affect the systems most actively managed. It doesn’t matter if they help or hinder, all it matters is to create the feeling in ‘gamers’ that (this) life cannot be gamed……

      Enjoyed the pod.
