Main discussion

We’d love to hear your thoughts about the ongoing Thargoid war in @EliteDangerous, so join us on Tuesday for our first “call in” show of the year!

How are you enjoying it so far?
What do you think could be improved?
Are you not taking part at all and if not, why not?

  1. Cmdr Ned McReady via our website

It’s disheartening to see the Invasion progress bar on a Wednesday and judge that there’s no way to win. I wonder if a “rout” threshold could be reached somewhere after, say, 75% where –if very many AX cmdrs do enough damage in a short period of time– it becomes exponentially easier, simulating Thargoid morale failure as they flee the battlefield.

This might help avoid Wasted Wednesdays before Thargoid Thursdays.
  2. Krzysztof ‘@GrandpaAquaman@101010.pl’ Studnik 🐘

    @kstudnik
Watching from Sag A*, and not taking part. I never had intent to build any anti-xeno ship. I would rather build some kind of stealth, corrosion resistant specialized vessel for scans and research the alien species than combat one.

But that’ll probably never be possible
  3. Wintermute – Twitter
It’s successfully increased player engagement and numbers. I think this is linked to the fact owning Odyssey isn’t required to take part.
  4. CMDR Silenus Keats

I’d say it would be great if less advanced pilots and ships, and more, new non-combat activities were available.Though if I understand right it can happen in next updates
  5. M. V. Coehoorn – Twitter

From a technical perspective: I think they outdid themselves and gave the majority of the players what they wanted. Sure, there’s some issues and bugs that need to be tackled, but overall it makes a solid impression

From my own perspective: I feel like ED’s storytelling took a major hit and sits in the backseat now, due to a war I did not want and was actively protesting and working against. It makes me sad and leaves a bitter aftertaste.
  6. Tom Foolery – Twitter

Patiently waiting for Uncle Sal to make his grand return and give us what we need to win this war.
  7. going Joanna mode – Twitter

I think it’s been loads of fun, even standing on the sidelines and mostly doing evacuations like me. I wish there were more anti-Azimuth things to do, I’m hoping Tanner will start his own initiatives along those lines. And no rescue stations a jillion Ls from the star!

  9. Boba – Twitter

    Not taking part.
    – Combat is still too specialised. Requires a dedicated ship build to meaningfully take part.
    – The non-combat missions are nothing new really, same old take X to Y.
    – It doesn’t feel much like ‘new’ content. Existing assets and gameplay loops re-used.
  10. Spanksalot – Twitter

It’s dull and tedious and the swarm needs removing.
  11. Cmdr Exorcist – Twitter

I’m holding out for when we can fight them with knives!
  12. From Loose Screws discord …
CMDR Bloomingwind from Lambda Andromedae calling in: Hi Lave Radio Alec, first time caller, long time listener! The Good: FDev has tried to create opportunities for players of every level and of every interest to participate! The bad: Some of the war mechanics are a little clunky with push back clocks resetting and mission rewards being meh. The Ugly: The thargoid war has been a bit of a mirror of humanity. We’re a chaotic species and even when it comes to the greater good and best strategic interests, sufficent number of folks will prefer hitting easier targets (Ground starports with no swarm) when systems like Jeng with two outposts only and a shorter deadline need all hands on deck because of the nature of the system. Also some folks want Thargoid combat to be ‘easier’ but I think the war has given me the opportunity to git gud. I’m no expert but I said, I am going to learn. I’ve even helped greener folks than I in some scenarios. It needs do bug fixes but it is a net win for the game.
  13. Little Big Yin

“I wouldn’t mind some consequences to a system falling. Maybe whatever system the evacuated people get plopped on causes pressure on the home system, possibly resulting in civil unrest or lack of food or heck disease outbreak”

Community Corner

  1. Operation IDA have been doing some tests on the Alert Systems ;-
    1. Phase 1 – They shipped 101,384 tonnes of goods to the commodities market ina 24 hour period – No Results.
    2. Phase 2 – They shipped 205,009 tonnes via the mission board (702 missions complete). Looks like only 15%-20% of the progress bar was increased.
  2. The Anti-Xeno Initiative continues to help with a new video from Astyrrean showing the ‘AXI Small Ship Fun List’, a discussion on which small ships are the most fun against the power pansies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndiDnQF_6q8
