In Episode 245 Fozza suggested folks email us some photos of paint jobs that, could use a touch up and the winner will receive a paint job!
Since that was the extent of the ‘direction’ the competition will end ‘soon’ (i.e. before the 2020 release of Elite Dangerous) and the winners will be announced ‘later’ (Still probably before the 2020 release, but don’t bet on it!!!)
If I need to be a little more serious, then it’ll end in a couple of weeks. We’ve been getting such great images in, it really does seem a shame to let them just wither. I (Ben) will suggest to the guys that we announce the winner at Lavecon (5th – 7th July) and we’ll decide the winner the week before that. So stopping accepting entries at the end of June makes sense to me, but then… what do I know!!! So… enough faffing from me. Here are our awesome entries, along with their stories!

I just started listening to Lave Radio about a month ago, a good friend told me about it. What a shame I started just now, exploring the black with my ASP Explorer is so much more fun when being entertained by you guys. Saved me from space madness I guess đ
Speaking of my trusty ASP: In your last podcast you asked pilots to send in screenshots of their ships with degraded paint. Well, I don’t know when I last renewed the paint job on my ship, must be over 1 year ago I guess. The paint is down to 0% now, I guess that qualifies it, haha.
The ship’s name is “DORA THE EXPLORER” and I guess it is the ship I have used the most in the game. I’ve been to Sag A* with it, on the way back to the bubble I took a detour to Colonia. My jump range must have been around 45 light years at that time and I did not use any neutron boosts on the way because, well, I was too afraid to use them. No joke, I really was đ
Besides a lot of exploration (I am at the Zurara right now with that ASP) I also did a lot of bounty hunting with that ship and most of the things I learned about the game I learned while piloting that ASP. I’m still using it today for exploration purposes, although a jumpaconda could give me around 10 light years more per jump.
I will attach some screenshots to this mail where you can see what is left of the paint.

My dear gentlemen and scholars,
My story is not a long one, but tells a harrowing tale of paint, yes paint. For myself it has been a lifelong dream to gaze upon the vastness of the galaxy and tremble, not that they need tremble, solely so I can take in its greatness in one fell viewing. For my once in a lifetime journey I wished to look my best, which led me to Lave Station. From my time frequenting the Orange Sidewinder and listening to the only radio station my Lakon Spaceways Asp could tune into, Hutton radio, I had heard great things of Eddie and Son, plus his daughters. So I went to see the husband of Eddie Lee Wise, Ken, to sort me out. He had many great recommendations, and he guaranteed me that I would look smashing upon my arrival to Beagle Point. This was very exciting, but all of these great promises came with a catch. Ken needed some rare commodities for such a rare paint job that would last to edge of the galaxy. The first was quite simple, Centuri Mega Gin. You see with his excess of Lavian Brandy, he wanted something a little different, a little stronger. The second on the other hand was more suspect. He needed me to visit his âfriendâ at a station near Panem. To me this all seemed simple enough. It was easy enough to travel there and meet his friend with rope like hair. The only problem arose on my return when galactic security forces seem more interested than average in my humble ship. Needless to say, I was able to supply Ken with his credits and âextrasâ. When he applied my paint, he did not disappoint. His and Eddieâs paint turn my drab Asp into an orange masterpiece. I felt that it had been masterfully inspired by that unique place that so often saw my patronage. Ken did assure that is paint would have sufficient integrity to still shine in the glow of the Milky Way. With this I headed out into the great black yonder. I mined in Omega, I saw the abandoned habidomes at the Conflux Settlements, I collected water for Explorerâs Anchorage, and I made the 65,000 some odd light years out to Beagle Point. After shedding a tear for the good boi Zy I prepared to take the dream picture of myself and my shiny orange Asp at the edge of the galaxy. I felt like a boy in primary school the night before Christmas, I trembled with excitement. I prepared the picture limpet for the culminating achievement of my weary life. As my Asp came into focus through my old Rift DV1 scope, I was crestfallen, devastated. The picture I had been imagining in my mind for over 2000 jump was ruined. There sat my Asp at the edge of galaxy with nary a fleck of clear coat left. All but a few square meters of orange looked back at me through the scope. In a moment of anger I cursed Ken and the farse he had sold me. After reaching into my glove box for a pull of conciliatory Centauri Mega Gin, I calmed. Whether or not my asp looked its best I had made. I HAD MADE IT! Even though I felt that Ken, at minimum, owed me a drink, I was happy to have made it. I look forward now to a long flight home. Who knows maybe I will stop at Colonia for an extended vacation on my way back.

I took my Krait Phantom (“Blackstar”) on Distant Worlds 2, often flying with a wingman for sightseeing and exploration data. Between a few AFK strolls away from neutron stars (forgetting to supercharge first), some lithobraking incidents, and some toasty fun times at black holes (including Ebony and Ivory), my paint was long gone and hull repaired multiple times by the time I arrived at Beagle Point. Thankfully I packed repair limpets instead of a second AFMU.
Probably the best paint profile photo is when I met up with another friend in an AspX as he was headed to BP and I was headed back to the Bubble. The paint is as bad or worse on the underside of the ship.
Still awaiting the end of the bathroom saga. Thanks for all the hours of sanity (relative to squadron chat space madness, I suppose) in the black.

Most of the damage to her paintwork was caused running out to Hutton Orbital, for which she hold the current time record, at 1h 23m 09s.
She’s never tried the Kessel run, but I’m sure it would take less than 12 parsecs đ

Ship is named 49âer .. yep itâs a mining krait setup also a member of IMU, took part scouting out 2000+ stars for hotspots during the Sag A CG event.. This ship has hit asteroids, flown through mile high geyzers, mined the crap out of two CGs and I tell you travelling with a mining fit is rough.. my power unit is now at 90%.. hull 93%. I tend to avoid neutron star jumps unless necessary now.
Currently still exploring after beagle point dw2 expo. I decided to create my own sojourn and ventured anticlockwise to hunt down some wolf-rayet (included image along with beaten up silhouette of my ship.. )

Continuing my journey in the Distant Worlds 2 expedition after stopping at Explorer’s Anchorage, I past through wondrous sights and patched up my ship where needed, reaching beagle point I celebrated with the fleet before turning and heading for home. After a long journey I finally touched down with 2,037,453 credits worth of damage to my ships integrity with made the landing at Phoenix Harbour harder than normal.

Maybe not the ideal way to start a conversation, let me try that again. I present to you the good ship T.A.R.D.I.S. which stands for Traveling A
Ridiculous Distance In Space. We’ve been through a lot together, including reaching Beagle Point in the first Distant Worlds Expedition
and exploring the mysteries of the Formidine Rift. She’s still my primary exploration vessel, and boarding her feels like lacing up a pair
of comfortable worn shoes. We’re a team, and we’re ageing gracefully together!
I purchased this ship with the insurance payout from the loss of my first Asp, which I foolishly crashed in a canyon on the way back from
Beagle Point. After the disbelief, laughter and tears passed, I found this Asp in the local shipyard and could tell we were meant for each
other. I had her painted gold and headed out to Beagle Point again because as far as I’m concerned, the only successful expedition is one
you return from with your cartography data intact. Since then we’ve seen many beautiful and strange sights, and look forward to more.
I raise my Hutton Mug filled with Lavian Brandy to all the commanders out there who proudly display the telltale signs of a well loved ship!

Hi, I’m Commander Rusticolus, a Buckyballer, Fuel Rat (Retired) and Explorer. This is “Enquiring Minds Need To Know”, my Type 6 Explorer. Last painted in 3301.
She is my second T6:E, my first didn’t make it back from my first trip to Sag A* (an out of fuel incident before the Fuel Rats were a thing).
She has been used for Fuel Rating (I was one of the original 10 Fuel Rats) and Buckyballing but is really my main exploration vessel. We even held the Type 6 Sag A* Buckyball record for a couple of years.
She was last painted back in mid 3301 before I headed to the 65k line. This was back before Jumponium and Engineering were things. With only 29 Ly jump range, I was pretty sure I wouldn’t get to Beagle Point but would be able to get over 65,0000ly from Sol.
I made it and was the 49th Cmdr to get over 65K, and the last before Jumponium – see the official 65k club thread here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/the-65000-ly-from-sol-club.193886/
This also meant I was the first Cmdr to get a T6 over 65k, had the furthest T6:E meetup (2 of us happened to make the journey at the same time!), and the first time more than 2 Cmdrs met past the 65k line (4 of us met up). It was a different time, the 2 Distant Worlds expeditions make this little meetup seem insignificant. But back then it was exciting!
Last year, we made a trip out to Sag A* (to coincide with visiting 30,000 systems). I then headed to Colonia and back to the bubble so I could achieve a milestone – 1,000,000 Ly traveled without using Jumponium or Engineering.
