xmas-turkey-v2

The team welcome back Mr Stroud and throw him into his first Live Podcast . We discuss the imminent arrival of updates 1.1 and 1.2 . We ask the question was Elite Dangerous really feature complete when it launched in December or did we all just get a Christmas Turkey?

  1. Paying for Beta testing is frankly ridiculous. Frontier should be paying US for testing their game for them. I for one won’t do it.

    Love the podcast! Safe flying.

  2. So glad this podcast exists! Do you folks frequent the Elite: Dangerous subreddit? There’s lots of great info and discussion there.

Also I’m not sure if you’ve covered this in a previous episode, but there’s a great route planning tool online at https://cmdr.club/routes/ . It works a little better than the in-game route planning tool because it can plot routes longer than 100LY and also in the fewest possible jumps!

One last thing: I just wanted to say that I really enjoy it very much when you discuss GalNet news.

    Keep up the great work!

    • Hello CMDR and thank you!
Yes there are some of us that lurk in the E:D subreddit occasionally, we do try to pick up on what’s going on in there and being discussed.

We have mentioned the route planning tool before, though we haven’t really discussed it at length, other than to say it can be pretty handy if you’ve got lost trying to self-navigate!

Thank you very much for your support and the lovely comments, it means a lot to us that people are enjoying what we do.

I think using language like “paying to test” conflates the crowd funded Kickstarter for the traditional publishing model.
Basically, people who pledged more to get the game funded were able to get access to early alpha and beta builds. In other words, they were not just offering to fund the game via cash, but also donate their time to test the game (hopefully allowing Frontier to put more money in to development).
I know some people bought in to alpha and beta after the Kickstarter but that was because *people asked for it*. And of course, Frontier couldn’t discount it or make access free because that would be unfair on the original backers.

  4. Star Raiders 2 Retro Lave – YES, YES, YES 🙂

(Sorry – Star Raiders 2 – originally The Last Starfighter – tremendous fun back when I was a child. and the original Star Raiders was much better on the Atari 800 than the 2600 🙂 ).

Great podcast as always – I am worried about the long-term financials of Elite Dangerous “we sold less units but at a higher $ amount per unit” – the higher premium per unit is only going to last so long. I do think Elite will get quite a run this year though – so i’m cautiously optimistic.
