  1. Distant Screws II: Expedition for Evelyn
    1. The Loose Screws community are heading out into the black once again to reach Evelyn’s Light! We will discover what the young scientist has left for us to discover in the deep reaches of space!
    2. (In the August of 2018 Evelyn was a girl hiking up a mountain with her family and complaining of a sore side when she got home. In September of 2018 she was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma with a tumour the size of a grapefruit in her abdomen. Thus began Evelyn’s and her family’s fight against cancer that would last for 1 ½ years. She threw off cancer’s grip on Feb 26, 2020 and ascended to the stars. 

      Hospital treatments to address the disease, radiation, chemo, stem cell transplants and surgery could not weigh down her spirit. She continued to read, play video games and show interest in science, design, fashion, comedy, wookies and the stars. While she slept beside her mother her father spent the long nights in Elite with a new group of comrades, some of whom knew his pain, some of whom shared their own, all of whom shared the game. Our thanks go out to Loose Screws and Frontier, and Drew Wagar for showing their support!)

    1. CMDR Yanick is arranging the Apollo 15 50th Anniversary Expedition from the 10th to the 30th of July 3307.

This expedition is the successor to the popular Apollo 11 Anniversary Expedition (A11X), where 670 CMDR’s celebrated the Apollo 11 Moon Landings 50 years to the moment after the Eagle touching down in the Sea of Tranquility. A11X remains the most successful player-base organised event in the history of Elite:Dangerous after the epic Distant Worlds, and Distant Worlds 2 expeditions.

      1. When “suiting up” for a Brain Dance, especially with Judy, V will be given a headset that is meant to onset the instance. The headset fits over both eyes and features a rapid onslaught of white and red blinking LEDs, much like the actual device neurologists use in real life to trigger a seizure when they need to trigger one for diagnosis purposes. If not modeled off of the IRL design, it’s a very spot-on coincidence

I have a general idea around the current resurgence in narrative (I do love the multiple storylines) and whether FDev can maintain momentum and innovate beyond what we have right now and if Odyssey gameplay will help that. Can they keep me and other commanders engaged in the narrative with different kinds of gameplay? Will they look at emergent gameplay to guide them in their choices? It came to mind because I was out in the black exploring with my carrier when CGs returned and they brought me back to the bubble because suddenly the area became interesting again.

Development News – what have the devs said this week?

    2. FD are happy (happier?) with mining – but feedback is welcome
    3. NPC Bounties will pay out between 4 and 10 times as much
      1. IMPORTANT NOTE: the number of credits shown immediately in your HUD when you destroy a criminal ship won’t display the newly increased amounts. This will need to wait until we’re certain of the final numbers. Accurate bounty figures can be found in the Transactions tab in your left panel.

  4. Mission Board Clarification – Dominic Corner has been on the forums this week to clarify some misconceptions about the mission board. Al lot of people are under the impression that even a harmless commander can take on an Elite Mission, get millions and then jump several ships in one go. According to Dom, when the 2.1 mission board update when in, you can only see missions from a couple of ranks above your rating. So Harmless Commanders can’t start with Elite missions.

The event is open to everyone, regardless of skill level, and you only have to worry about fighter resupply costs – no big rebuys! All you need to join is a size 6 fighter hanger stocked with fighters – any variant allowed except the ones with beams lasers.   2. Operation IDA leaves its mark on the Galaxy
    1. On the 18th November, Operation Ida welcomed the esteemed CMDR AstroSnufkin back to the Bubble! AstroSnufkin departed from Malthus Terminal – Pleiades Sector HR-W d1-41, home of Operation Ida, on April 6th, 2020 to make his mark on the galaxy. Equipped with a trusty Sidewinder and a 33.65 ly jump range, he set off on a mission to trace the Operation Ida logo upon the galaxy! 31,081 jumps later, he has completed his mission and we at Operation Ida are pleased to share his accomplishment with the greater Elite community!
    2. Below are some stats from his journey:

      2. Distance: 924,576.24 LY
      3. No dockings, repairs, Fuel Rats or Hull Seals calls

Dave Pearson, (who had been arranging nice things for Baz) managed to slip, fall, break his arm in two places and dislocated his elbow… He then managed to beat the Hospital’s Rugby Team who had been trying to get things back where they should have been, and eventually had to be knock out, allowing a team of the NHS’ best 8 to re-assemble things correctly. We here at Lave Radio would like to officially call him a pillock and are glad to see he’s managed to break free from the Hospital and has been spotted walking around with a twitch purple cast that Frontier Developments specially gifted him for watching their stream even before it had been broadcast…

  1. New  expedition “Space Adaptation – The search for Life” expedition,
    1. There is a lot of life in the Universe, from tiny micro-organisms to complex fusion and symbiosis of viable organisms. It is a wonder how all this exists in the universe around us.

      To experience these phenomena first hand, the expedition “Space Adaptation – the Search for Life” will visit all manner of life forms out there in the dangerous void relatively close to the Bubble. Join a group of like-minded explorers and admire 11 different alien life forms, including objects created by them, and append these exciting new discoveries to your Codex. The expedition route has been optimized to enable more than 20 codex entries to be collected by visiting only 7 different systems within 15k ly from Sol.

      For the enthusiast, there is also a modified route that includes some 20 further systems, containing an extra 20 variations of these life forms.

      As a souvenir of your expedition, we aim to take group photographs at each of the phenomena, and collate these into a visual library of the trip.

      This expedition presents a unique opportunity for you and your fellow explorers to study, with relative ease and speed, a significant section of life in our universe.

In-Game Events – what’s happened this week?

    1. Prince Harold’s FUNeral
      1. The Imperial Palace will host a memorial ceremony to honour Harold Duval, for which rare commodities have been requested before Thursday 1st October. Ngadandari Fire Opals, Esuseku Caviar, Lavian Brandy and Kamitra Cigars should be delivered to Oterma Station in the Baal system, where the White Templars will transport them to Capitol after security vetting.
      2. Commanders of the Pilots Federation will be assigned an Achenar system permit alongside financial rewards. To further encourage participation, Gutamaya Corporation will apply a discount of up to 25% for all ship purchases according to the amount of rare items provided.
      3. Mark Winstone has been number crunching. This is going to be one hell of a shindig… in fact it’d be worthy of something out of the Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. If it completes, and just one fifth of the goods are Lavian Brandy, that will be roughly 9 gigalitres of brandy… Put that in a pool 2m deep, and it’s a pool with about the surface area of Coniston Water.
    2. Starship One Trial Begins
      1.  “According to the testimonies of three naval engineers, they installed replacement power regulator components to Starship One prior to its launch. Mr Webster verified this was routine maintenance during the initial investigation.”

  2. Turning The Wheel
    1. TDW’s Expansion from 5455 should land on 30th or 1st and they are already sitting at over 75% in Turdetani so the second the cooldown drops they will Expand (hopefully) to Lave.
    2. If all goes well The Dark Wheel will actually test phase 3 in around two weeks.  Seems appropriate that we will test Phase 3 first in this screwball endeavor.
    3. Phase 1 would be tested 2 weeks after and Phase 2 we will have to drag migrate out to 509 so hopefully by/in Jan.
    4. Phase 2: To expand TDW to the Lave System.
      1. Reasoning: There are old lore tidbits about Raxxla being quite close to Lave. And Lave also has a permit-locked planet, with no definitive explanation. I am aware that there are statements on record that the permit lock was at the direction of Allen Stroud and was most likely tied to the Lave Revolution storyline, but that does not definitively mean that it could not still also be tied to the mystery of Raxxla.

      “The tragedy of Starflight One’s destruction set events in motion that still haunt us today. It’s prudent to continue this investigation rather later than shut it down completely – as was the case in early 3302. However, the final inquiry report needs to be made public.
      Every decent pilot is taught to make his pre-flight checks and when transporting a Federation President it must be assumed they double- and triple check everything. It is hard to believe the pilots would oversee an illegal FSD modification, unless told to look elsewhere.
      Finding a mid level culprit thrown under the bus by colleagues is too much of a cliché really. We encourage our friends to put pressure on those institutions. This case must be made public. Force their hands!”

Development News – what have the devs said this week?

    1.  In Odyssey, players will be able to fly down to planets, fly through atmospheres and drive along planet surfaces in their SRVs – all while remaining in VR.
    2. When disembarking your ship or SRV, players will be presented with a projected flat game screen in their VR headset in order to continue on foot. Players will of course be able to remove headsets if they so choose, but this will not be a requirement to continue your adventure.
    3. There will be no requirement to boot between Horizons and Odyssey in order to continue your journey.
    4. While Odyssey will see players explore a wide range of on and off world locations including station interiors, ship interiors will not be included at launch.
