Development News – what have the devs said this week?

  1. New players thanks to the Free Epic Store giveaway. The breakdown is 2.5 Million PC users and 1.5 Console players and 8 Million Free Downloads from the Epic Store. Total number of players 12 Million?!??
  2. Let’s Play: Community Goal
    1. Stephen and Bruce did the CG no real news that I noticed, although the wednesday AMA appears to be cancelled and they’re choosing questions from the community and answering them on a friday afternoon (See Below).
    2. They did say that the Narrative (CG and Galnet) is going to proceed at the same pace.
  3. Tuesday’s Stream.
    1. No CG on Thursday but something ‘Lore Related’ to find… Arf says he’s planning on making us work for it

In-Game Events – what’s happened this week?

  1. AXI Now marks the time in which the Eye of the Odyssey begins. This is your chance to earn yourself a copy of the Deluxe Edition of Elite Dangerous Odyssey (Steam) for winning 1st place and a standard copy (Steam) to 2nd. 
    1. This event wouldn’t be possible without CMDR IM2D of NEWP (New Pilots Initiative) and the outstanding staff members over at NEWP which came to us asking if we could do a cooperative event. 
    2. The time trial challenge is this;-
      1. 1) Start on the Stellaris Invicta [NEWP] in Musca Dark Region JX-T C3-13
      2. 2) Go to a Threat 5 and collect a Cyclops Tissue Sample.
      3. 3) Collect the same Cyclops heart.
      4. 4) Pick up a single Meta-Alloy from a Barnacle Site/Forest or surface site.
      5. 5) Finish at the Eclipse [AXI] in Musca Dark Region GW-W D1-143

The Silverbacks Squadron are heading up an expedition to Sagittarius A* and Explorers Anchorage, but taking a curved route up and across the Sagittarius-Carina Arm and the Scutum-Centaurus Arm taking in the Circinus Transit and parts of the Norma Expanse and Arcadian Stream before heading into the Core regions somewhere near the Teal Nebula.
    1. Objectives:
      1. Reach the Core Regions.
      2. Collect biological samples.
      3. Search for POIs in the Circinus Transit.
      4. Review the systems and boundaries discovered as part of the Drymon Survey of the The Aronnax Expedition 3303.
      5. Search for POIs traversing the galactic arms between the Drymon Ridge and the Gallipolis.
      6. Survey the peripheries of the Teal Nebula and visit the Guardian ruins.
      7. Deliver supplies to DSSA FCs and Explorer’s Anchorage.

  1. TDW are back from Holiday break and are pushing now. Will go pending expansion this week to go into Sol Test site. After that they are prepped to start the expansion to LFT509 test site. So this month is going to see them test the remaining 2 sites!
  2. We hope MalicVR enjoyed his week of fame with his 5hr 48min Beagle Point run … this has now been utterly shattered by previous record holder Dr Chives with a time of 4hrs 18mins 53secs
  3. Former Community Manager Paige Harvey AKA Arthremis is doing a multi streamer AMA on life as a marginalised person on Saturday the 30th of January from 12pm to 6pm
  4. We have to congratulate Cmdr Muskateer for reaching 200,000 kills in CQC (200,003 at the last count).

  1. Distant Screws II: Expedition for Evelyn
    1. The Loose Screws community are heading out into the black once again to reach Evelyn’s Light! We will discover what the young scientist has left for us to discover in the deep reaches of space!
    2. (In the August of 2018 Evelyn was a girl hiking up a mountain with her family and complaining of a sore side when she got home. In September of 2018 she was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma with a tumour the size of a grapefruit in her abdomen. Thus began Evelyn’s and her family’s fight against cancer that would last for 1 ½ years. She threw off cancer’s grip on Feb 26, 2020 and ascended to the stars. 

      Hospital treatments to address the disease, radiation, chemo, stem cell transplants and surgery could not weigh down her spirit. She continued to read, play video games and show interest in science, design, fashion, comedy, wookies and the stars. While she slept beside her mother her father spent the long nights in Elite with a new group of comrades, some of whom knew his pain, some of whom shared their own, all of whom shared the game. Our thanks go out to Loose Screws and Frontier, and Drew Wagar for showing their support!)

    1. CMDR Yanick is arranging the Apollo 15 50th Anniversary Expedition from the 10th to the 30th of July 3307.

This expedition is the successor to the popular Apollo 11 Anniversary Expedition (A11X), where 670 CMDR’s celebrated the Apollo 11 Moon Landings 50 years to the moment after the Eagle touching down in the Sea of Tranquility. A11X remains the most successful player-base organised event in the history of Elite:Dangerous after the epic Distant Worlds, and Distant Worlds 2 expeditions.

    1. Very good article explaining parts of Cyberpunk that MAY trigger seizures and one part which has almost been designed to…
      1. When “suiting up” for a Brain Dance, especially with Judy, V will be given a headset that is meant to onset the instance. The headset fits over both eyes and features a rapid onslaught of white and red blinking LEDs, much like the actual device neurologists use in real life to trigger a seizure when they need to trigger one for diagnosis purposes. If not modeled off of the IRL design, it’s a very spot-on coincidence

  1. As suggested by CMDR JThar Birrrelle: Yeah, no pressure. I have a general idea around the current resurgence in narrative (I do love the multiple storylines) and whether FDev can maintain momentum and innovate beyond what we have right now and if Odyssey gameplay will help that. Can they keep me and other commanders engaged in the narrative with different kinds of gameplay? Will they look at emergent gameplay to guide them in their choices? It came to mind because I was out in the black exploring with my carrier when CGs returned and they brought me back to the bubble because suddenly the area became interesting again.
    1. Does the Narrative drive game play?

      2. Engage people who have been out in the black, for want of nothing better to do
    2. Can FD keep up with the Narrative?

    1. The Loose Screws community are heading out into the black once again to reach Evelyn’s Light! We will discover what the young scientist has left for us to discover in the deep reaches of space!
    2. (In the August of 2018 Evelyn was a girl hiking up a mountain with her family and complaining of a sore side when she got home. In September of 2018 she was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma with a tumour the size of a grapefruit in her abdomen. Thus began Evelyn’s and her family’s fight against cancer that would last for 1 ½ years. She threw off cancer’s grip on Feb 26, 2020 and ascended to the stars. Hospital treatments to address the disease, radiation, chemo, stem cell transplants and surgery could not weigh down her spirit. She continued to read, play video games and show interest in science, design, fashion, comedy, wookies and the stars. While she slept beside her mother her father spent the long nights in Elite with a new group of comrades, some of whom knew his pain, some of whom shared their own, all of whom shared the game. Development News – what have the devs said this week?

  4. Mission Board Clarification – Dominic Corner has been on the forums this week to clarify some misconceptions about the mission board. Al lot of people are under the impression that even a harmless commander can take on an Elite Mission, get millions and then jump several ships in one go. According to Dom, when the 2.1 mission board update when in, you can only see missions from a couple of ranks above your rating. So Harmless Commanders can’t start with Elite missions.

The event is open to everyone, regardless of skill level, and you only have to worry about fighter resupply costs – no big rebuys! All you need to join is a size 6 fighter hanger stocked with fighters – any variant allowed except the ones with beams lasers.   2. Operation IDA leaves its mark on the Galaxy
    1. On the 18th November, Operation Ida welcomed the esteemed CMDR AstroSnufkin back to the Bubble! AstroSnufkin departed from Malthus Terminal – Pleiades Sector HR-W d1-41, home of Operation Ida, on April 6th, 2020 to make his mark on the galaxy. Equipped with a trusty Sidewinder and a 33.65 ly jump range, he set off on a mission to trace the Operation Ida logo upon the galaxy! 31,081 jumps later, he has completed his mission and we at Operation Ida are pleased to share his accomplishment with the greater Elite community!
    2. Below are some stats from his journey:

      3. No dockings, repairs, Fuel Rats or Hull Seals calls

We here at Lave Radio would like to officially call him a pillock and are glad to see he’s managed to break free from the Hospital and has been spotted walking around with a twitch purple cast that Frontier Developments specially gifted him for watching their stream even before it had been broadcast…

    1. Elite Dangerous is coming to the Epic Games Store next week! It will be available for free from 19 Nov to 26 Nov. We hope you’ll consider sharing this news with potential future commanders you know so you can blaze your trails together!
  2. Dev Diary 3 has been delayed due to the 2nd Lockdown. Arth Says it’s due in December, which is apparently going to make a Busy month of December. 
  3. Thursday’s Stream where Arf and Bruce took on notorious CQC player Obi-wan in several matches. It’s fair to say Obi-wan trounced all comers (Probably because he always has the high ground) and eventually teams were formed leading to Cmdr Eid LeWeise being kicked all around the map. It was like watching a fluffy puppy being used as a football.
