Questions
During Episode 336 we discussed the idea of a new rank grind where Shan was incredibly against the idea, but Ben was more “meh” about the whole thing, so we thought we’d get your opinion, do you want:
Ranks above Elite (i.e. Elite+ or Archangel)
The existing ranks to be spread out more? (i.e. Very Deadly etc)
A prestige mechanic
Recognition for a greater variety of game achievements (i.e. Mining, AX, Passenger, etc)
No changes to the current ranks
Change what you like about Trade and Exploration Ranks, but leave Combat alone
A new “Post Elite Rank” grind (i.e. The Banking Consortium has noticed your trade rank and we’d like you do do some jobs for us, etc)

According to the news from Jan the 13th. They’re planning a ‘Phased’ release, so we won’t be getting the whole of Odyssey in one go. It will probably like the original Alpha, with them unlocking section by section.

New Cosmetics and things for Holo-Me when we launch into Odyssey
Anyone else noticed that Odyssey Adverts are no longer using David Bowie as their soundtrack?
An investor report (which has now been removed from Reddit) is reporting 500K Active players who play the game once a month.
Although we don’t know how people are assigned, player’s apparently fall into 4 categories;-
Epic
Active
New
inactive/lapsed
The don’t count the Epic Freebies because they got the game for free
They’re estimating 1million copies of Odyssey to be sold in the first year
The Energy Link tool transfers energy between the user’s suit battery and a target socket. It also discharges powerful electrical pulses over a short distance!
Q: Can you talk about the different suits in Odyssey? – Yes, as you see in the video, players can take up different roles depending on the suit they use. The tactical suit for example, can carry two different weapons, which is unique to that suit, so you need to consider the best suit for the mission you’re about to engage in.
Q: There are different types of weapons in Odyssey, could you tell us why a player might use them? – Way back when we started prototyping combat, it became quite clear to us early on that the ship combat has some really interesting concepts behind it, so we basically stole them! The premise is that kinetic weapons are good against armour, lasers are good against shields, and plasma re decent against both but not quite as good as the other two. When it comes to choosing a loadout, you’ll want to choose your weapons to be the most efficient, so you may want lasers to take out shields and kinetic to finish them off. If you’re working as a team, you can specialise, one player can be ant-shield, and another can finish them off via kinetic.
Q: For the getaway, we landed to the side of the settlement for a quick escape, there’s been a small change in this, hasn’t there? – Yes, you can now automatically land on planet surfaces. It’s hard to encapsulate all the changes in a few minutes of video. When players get hold of the alpha, that’s when they’ll really understand what we’ve done.
Q: Can you talk about suit management? – There are different things that can pull on the suits’ power. There’s the life support machine, things like the shield (which is power hungry when turned on), and some of the tools can use your suit power. Survival actually starts to become something you need to become considerate of in certain situations. If you’re at a settlement, there are areas where you can recharge your suit, but if you’re out exploring, there’s certainly a risk factor involved. Environmental factors can also have an effect on how hard your suit has to work to keep you alive. If you’re in really extreme temperatures, you’ll be taking physical damage. You can disembark somewhere on the planet with safe temperatures, but you can quite quickly end up somewhere where the temperature is much hotter, and end up in danger.

Questions
Would you use an exploit? Are there any things that you consider ok that others consider an exploit? What is “too much”? Does it make a difference that it’s a multiplayer game?
Vingetun from Hutton Orbital provided us with an excellent update on the ongoing voyages of the MPV Everest, the ‘best’ part is that the ship’s log now officially contains “We have fuel, you don’t. Any questions?”
The Fleet Carrier, Khonsu XLF-5XY is now stationed in Varati ready for its departure to the 1st waypoint of the “Comfy Canonn Cruise” on the 14th of March at 15:00 UTC. For more information please visit http://bit.ly/ed3c on the Elite Dangerous Forums

We’d like to revisit our approach to player memorials in-game.
In the past, we’ve accepted requests to add locations or change location names to give players a place to remember and celebrate their loved ones. Unfortunately, this gesture could not be scaled to meet the large number of requests we received as time went on.
We’re now ready with a solution that offers an equal and respectful way to honour all Commanders’ requests to memorialise friends and family that have passed. Our plan is to create memorial beacons in the following systems, each of which will feature an epitaph and a list of names:
Sol
Achenar
Alioth
Shinrarta Dezhra
Colonia
Asellus Primus
Dromi
The names will be updated periodically every few months at all locations. This will allow any visitor to see the full list at any beacon at any given time. The locations are expected to be added by the end of this month.

Reward: The module is a fully engineered lightweight and high capacity Class 2 Seeker Missile Rack with thermal cascade. It was offered in October 3306 to pilots who helped defend the Eurybia system from Imperial forces.
The reward for this week’s goal works differently to how you may expect. Rather than unlocking the item in outfitting, you directly purchase the module with the resources. You can get two by obtaining double the resources.
We’ve seen some confusion in regards to the resources needed for the module. You use the resources listed (Proto radiolic alloy, conductive ceramics, hybrid capacitors, phosphorus and osmium) for the purchase rather than the mined materials (bromellite, lithium hydroxide, and samarium). Apologies for any confusion caused.

This directs you to a mission
Mission asks you to go to a location in the system where you are assigned tasks
Tasks so far include:
Defending the capital ship from attack
Collecting Resources
Search through debris field looking for wrecks
Search through the wreck (on foot) looking for Canisters to load on to your ship
3 types… one basic, one which is time sensitive, one which is quantum drive sensitive. (i.e. take too long or go faster than light the resource goes boom!)
Potential for combat whilst exploring the wrecks
Fighting off smaller fighters whilst looking for the resources
Cmdr IvIePhisto (Pronounced Mephisto) is arranging a Fleet Carrier Assisted version of the Cannon Challenge:
Come along on the Comfy Canonn Cruise, following in CMDR Marxanthius steps on the Canonn Challenge to visit every life form and notable stellar phenomena discovered by Canonn Research. To participate, hop on board the fleet carrier Khonsu XLF-5XY in Varati until 15:00 UTC on March the 14th. The journey is planned to take 4 to 5 months for the 448 thousand lightyears journey through 1006 systems. For more info see @5xyXlf on Twitter or contact via email at XLF-5XY@gmx.info.

We want to send some massive love to Baz Floyd from Special Effect, who had a stroke late last year. Sadly despite being in isolation he also somehow caught covid. We’re glad to say that even though he’s still in hospital and he still has a long road ahead of him, he is on the mend, he’s already beaten the COVID and he’s regaining faculties. Further we’d also like to send our love to his partner Ali Hilborne.
Paige’s “Through Our Eyes” stream which had loads of ‘marginalised’ streamers. From people in the LGBTQIA+ Community, to people with Mental and Physical Health Issues, to BIPOC streamers. Some of their stories were heartbreaking, some were inspirational. There was so much love in the stream it was great. On of the people I found most interesting was a streamer with Dissociation with Parts who’s called “Hobohaus” – HoboHaus – Twitch It was so interesting watching watching and listening to them talking about their system and how they’re learning to live with themselves. If you want to watch it the VODs are on Arthremis’ YouTube
